Questions and answers
Are you taking on new NHS patients in Clay Cross?
Yes — we're currently registering new NHS and private patients from Clay Cross and the surrounding villages. NHS demand across Derbyshire is high and places can come and go, so it's worth getting in touch sooner rather than later. Call 01246 863185 or use our contact form to register.
Whereabouts in Clay Cross are you, and how do I get there?
We're at 69 Holmgate Rd, Clay Cross S45 9PG, on the road that runs from the town centre past Kenning Park and the library. Clay Cross bus station is in the centre of town with services to Chesterfield, Alfreton and the nearby villages, and you can plan your journey at travelderbyshire.co.uk.
Which areas do you look after?
We're a local practice for Clay Cross and its three communities of Danesmoor, Holmgate and Clay Lane, and we welcome patients from Tupton, North Wingfield, Pilsley, Wingerworth, Ashover and the surrounding parts of North East Derbyshire.
How much does NHS dental treatment cost?
NHS charges in England for 2026 fall into three bands. Band 1 (£27.90) covers an examination, diagnosis and advice, including any X-rays and a scale and polish if needed. Band 2 (£76.60) covers fillings, extractions and root canal work. Band 3 (£332.10) covers crowns, dentures and bridges. Some patients are exempt from charges.
What happens at my first appointment?
Your dentist will take a full dental and medical history, examine your teeth, gums and soft tissues, and take any X-rays needed. You'll get a clear explanation of anything they find and an agreed plan, including costs, before any treatment starts.
I really don't like the dentist. Can you help?
You're far from alone, and we look after a lot of nervous patients. Let us know when you book and we'll allow extra time, talk you through each step, and never rush you. Getting back into regular check-ups usually makes future visits much easier.
Do you see dental emergencies?
Yes. If you have severe toothache, swelling or a broken tooth, call us early in the day on 01246 863185 and we'll do our best to see you as soon as possible. When we're closed, NHS 111 can point you to the nearest urgent dental service covering Clay Cross.
Do you offer private treatments like teeth whitening or Invisalign?
Yes. Alongside NHS care we offer private options including professional teeth whitening, Invisalign clear aligners and dental implants. Call 01246 863185 to arrange a consultation and we'll talk through what would suit you.
